Breastfeeding help and support
Honeysuckle House provides a friendly home from home environment where new mothers can receive information and support during the early weeks of parenting. Our weekly clinic offers 1:1 personal breastfeeding support and guidance which is provided by a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
Honeysuckle House is fully equipped with all the facilities you might need such as: hospital grade breast pumps, nursing bras/tops and various chairs/sofas to support a variety of feeding positions. The weekly clinic is ideal for breastfeeding mothers who need additional support with longer observations in order to establish and/or continue successful breastfeeding.
What to expect at the consultation
The one and a half hour clinic appointments at HBUK aim to support you and your family by bringing together HBUK’s wide knowledge, experience and skills gained through training courses and evidence based research in the field of infant feeding and newborn care. The content of each session will vary according to your individual need. At each appointment we aim to complete a full feeding assessment and take a thorough history. We will also complete an oral assessment to check tongue function, palate shape and see how the baby sucks/creates a seal. We can complete a weight check if feeding plans are to be discussed or amended although this may not be necessary. If you suspect a tongue tie needs treatment there can be a detailed discussion and consent so that the division can be performed during the appointment. If appropriate, there may also be time for Cranial Sacral bodywork following the feeding assessment.
As part of the appointment fee we offer a follow up telephone call to see how things are going. We can’t guarantee a specific time, but Liz or a member of the HBUK team will give you a call roughly a week after your initial appointment. We feel this is a valuable support service as it makes space for feedback, questions and any amendments that are needed. The HBUK team are very receptive to private messages on facebook through our official page or email (which is checked at least every 48 hours).
We also offer a free, weekly support group for local families. We also offer bookable time slots for in depth follow up phone calls as well as follow up clinic appointments for further face to face support, amendments to feeding plans or bodywork
